Stump the priest

A suggestion from some of the students at UofL is that I open the floor for questions. Always a great idea. When I teach a class I always tell people to interrupt me with questions or I'll just go on and on and on. So feel free to leave questions or topics to explore in the comments section below.

The Catholic Church acknowledges that evolution is a valid scientific theory. From science we know that life and death have existed for billions of years. Yet in the Catechism #397-406 the church teaches that Adam and Eve's sin was the cause of death. However, how could man be responsible for death if death has existed since before man ever walked the earth? And how can Christ's obedience on the cross bring us new life if our ancestor's disobedience wasn't the cause death. You may be tempted to think that I'm an atheist, but I am not. I actually have formulated an answer to this question. I just want to see how well you can answer it. If I haven't made my question clear please tell me and I'll try to be more precise.
